Stump Grinders are the most common and most effective way to remove a stump. A stump grinding machine mechanically grinds the stumps below the soil line. This process only takes a few minutes and is not expensive. It will leave a hole where the stump used to be that can be filled in either with top soil or with the stump mulch left behind. Most stump removal companies will remove the mulch or apply it elsewhere on your property if that is what you want done. Stump grinding does not take the entire stump out but this method typically stops the need for any other treatment of the stump. In some cases a spout may appear. If this happens you can apply an herbicide and this will kill the new sprouts. Also, you may apply an herbicide to the underground stump before covering it up to prevent sprouting from occurring.
